Our Services

Mariposa provides Business and Management Consulting Solutions directed at improving the tactical execution of strategic initiatives. We offer Project and Technical Management services to clients where engineering, technical and / or process knowledge is required. Because our consultants' training and experience encompass diverse service, engineering and technical backgrounds, we can provide project management services in highly technical and specific areas.

Project Management:

Project Management is the discipline that cultivates the expertise to plan, monitor, track and manage the people, time, budget, and the quality of the work on projects. It is the means by which all the many complex pieces of the project puzzle are fit together.

At Mariposa we assist clients with all aspects of Project Management. This includes: recommendations, implementation, coordination, organization, planning and cost analysis. With our clients we work to:

1. Develop the project plan
2. Choose a methodology or approach for the project
3. Select the project team
4. Identify and evaluate consultants
5. Engage top management sponsors
6. Determine training needs and to arrange team training

Our expertise in the aviation, manufacturing and service segments of our business lays in our ability to identify opportunities and implement process optimizing changes. Because our consultants have in-depth and diverse technical backgrounds, we can provide project management that is not only adept at managing projects but is technically competent in the projects discipline.

Specifically, within our aviation consulting practice: software assessment and implementation, repair and modification [supplemental type certificates (STC), damage evaluation, repair design and implementation], FAA project management activity [certification, stress analysis report approval, and parts manufacturing approval (PMA)]. We also focus on assisting Air Carrier Start-Ups and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) software developers with project management.

Within our manufacturing and service consulting practice: software assessment and implementation [ERP, MRP, SCM, ABC], Six Sigma deployment, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Strategic Assessment & Alignment and SWOT analysis, marketing and sales evaluation.

Furthermore, we assist many smaller clients, who would otherwise pull valuable key employees from their primary duties to manage a project. At Mariposa we can supplement an organization's existing staff with temporary technical coordination and project management assistance, thus ensuring a successful start and finish to the project.

Strategic Assessment:

One of the most important aspects of managing a successful business is keeping business processes aligned with the firm’s strategic objectives. First and foremost is the development of a focused, constructive and realistic business strategy. Second the business processes developed to produce the product or service, should function in a manner that efficiently and effectively support the strategic objectives. Mariposa will assist the client in developing strategic objectives and a corresponding strategic plan. We can then assess how well the businesses processes align with and support the strategic objectives. To accomplish this assessment, Mariposa employs the following:

·       Analysis of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats

·       Analysis of Core Competencies

·       Process Mapping

·       Critical to Satisfaction Criteria Development

·       Competitive Benchmarking

Once assessment is completed, the client has a clear understanding of:

·       Organization fit within the competitive market

·       Core Competencies

·       Strategic Objectives

·       Core Process Strategic Alignment

·       Strategic Plan

The strategic assessment process is fundamental to all operation improvement initiatives. Without a clear understanding of a firm’s strategic objectives, the organization remains in a reactive mode, subject to competitive market actions. However, equipped with a clear strategic plan, a firm becomes proactive and more closely aligned with customer requirements.

Supply Chain Management:

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is a term used to describe the close interaction between firm’s processes and their suppliers. Fifteen years ago the objective was “Material Requirements Planning (MRP I & II)” , ten years ago it was “Manufacturing Resource Planning and Just-in-time”. Today, SCM has pushed the inventory management envelope to develop methods that allow for the close coordination of a firm’s customers, the firms internal processes, the firms suppliers and their suppliers production activities. This close coordination endeavors to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

Mariposa works with the client to optimize internal processes through the coordination of internal process customers and suppliers. Once internal optimization has been achieved, we work with the client to externalize the optimization through the close coordination of requirements with external suppliers. The results of a successful supply chain management initiative are a significant reduction in idle inventory and reduced operating costs. SCM implementation also delivers a greater flexibility in responding to changes in market conditions.

Six Sigma:

There is an increasing trend in business today to revisit the value of deploying Six Sigma. Many people and organizations are under the impression that Six Sigma is a concept that refers only to Quality Control and Quality Assurance. This is not the case. Six Sigma encompasses a methodology that employs many tools to analyze, reduce and/or eliminate sources of variation in business processes. The processes can be either production or non-production related.  The conventional view would suggest that Six Sigma be deployed in reducing the number of non-conforming product. Six Sigma methodologies can be utilized in other processes such as  increasing inventory accuracy, shortening the Accounts Receivable cycle and other processes that firms use in the course of operating their business.

There are two main components of Six Sigma deployment; (1) Business Process Management and (2) Process Improvement Methodology. Business Process Management centers on:

·       Strategic Assessment

·       Developing Process Metrics

·       Process Evaluation Using Metrics

·       Developing Project Selection Criteria

·       Selecting Projects

Process Improvement Methodology employs the five stages of Six Sigma:

·       Define

·       Measure

·       Analyze

·       Improve/Design

·       Control/Verify

Mariposa works with the client to develop the deployment strategy that best fits the organization. Once a strategy has been developed we work with the client to proceed through the Business Process Management phase and then to successfully complete the deployment of the Process Improvement Methodology. Our level of involvement with the client ranges from high-level guidance or complete project management and Six Sigma training.

Lean Processes:

Lean Manufacturing is a descendant of the manufacturing system developed in Japan by Toyota. The “Toyota Manufacturing System” relied on the “Kanban” process. This process used a pull system to trigger upstream re-supply of downstream inventory requirements “just-in-time”. The result was the elimination of inefficient inventory throughout the process. It also served as a platform to eliminate non-value adding processes inherent in batch processing operations with high levels of idle work-in-process inventories.

Mariposa works with the client to develop an appropriate approach to implementing Lean Manufacturing. Once the approach has been developed we work with the client’s employees in workshops. These workshops are directed at changing processes in a effort to eliminate idle work-in-process inventories and to eliminate non-value adding activities in the workplace. During the workshops we train each member of the team in the concepts of Lean Manufacturing and in the various techniques used to evaluate processes and develop improvements.
